Understanding Deen al-Hanifiyyah part 5 – Shaikh Fakhriy – 29th Dec 2023

The sheikh continues to talk about the Millatul Ibrahim after having given much evidence from the Qur’an and Sunnah about this Millah, which is the Aqeedatul Tawheed: i.e., to incline towards the Truth. He reiterates that this Truth is the Tawheed of Allah, subhanahu wa ta’ala, because He is Rabbul ‘Alameen (‘Lord of all that exists’ or ‘Lord of the Worlds’) and therefore He is deserving of our worship: to know Him, to love Him, to obey Him, and to glorify Him.

Understanding Deen al-Hanifiyyah part 3 – Shaikh Fakhriy -15th Dec 2023

In this khutbah, Sheikh Fakhriy gives the evidences for the fact that the religion of Allah is one and it is Islam based on the religion of Ibrahim (Millatul Ibrahim). And this is the religion of Musa, also, based on Millatul Ibrahim. And this is the religion of ‘Isa (Jesus), based on the millatul Ibrahim. And, also, this is the religion of Muhammad, peace be upon him, who has been ordered to follow the Millatul Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, the nation of Musa and the nation of Jesus, turned away form this Millah/ from this deen. This is not the words of the sheikh. But, it is from the very words of Allah, subhanahu wa ta’ala: the qur’an. All the evidence demonstrates that the people of Musa are not following the religion of Musa, which is Islam, and similarly, the people of ‘Isa are not following the religion of ‘Isa – which is Islam. All such evidence can be found in the qur’an.

Lesson 23: The 29 Characteristics of Ahl al Sunna wal Jammah

What characterises Ahl al Sunna wal Jammah from other groups? Especially in matters of aqeedah?

The unique position with the aqeedah of Ahl as Sunna wal Jamaah is that noone can deny it because it is all evidence-based and goes right back to the formative period of Islam.

For instance, if we glance at the deviant sects, we notice they have a specific focus, which though their topic of interest itself is good – these groups make these topics an unbalanced priority. For instance:

  • The Khawarij focus only on jihad or the outward signs of worship
  • The Shia focus only on the ahl al bayt (i.e. the family of Ali, may Allah be pleased with him)
  • The Sufis focus only on dhikr
  • Hizbut Tahrir (HT) focus only on khilafa
  • Ikhwan al Muslimeen (Muslim Brotherhood) focus only on the unity of the Muslims

But the reality is that the mission of the prophets was only ever about Towhid (the one-ness of Allah, monotheism). And this is the priority of the Ahl al Sunnah wal Jamaah or the Muwahidun (monotheists):

  • “Hear O Israel, the Lord, our God, is One.” Deuteronomy 6:4
  • La ilaha illallah: There is no ilah except Allah (The Only One, Unique, True Ilah [i.e. deity, god, one to worship])

So what exactly are the characteristics of Ahl al Sunnah wal Jamaah?
